A lot of people have questions about crowns or "caps."
Crowns can be used to strengthen or restore a weak tooth, one that might have a large filling or a large cavity. They can also be used to create a more aesthetic or beautiful tooth of used on cosmetic cases.
If a tooth is weak or has a large filling, a crown can be utilized to strengthen the tooth and give it a longer lasting, more durable restoration.
If you have a missing tooth, you can crown the tooth on either side and splint it in and you can have what’s called a “bridge” giving you a permanent replacement for a missing tooth.
There are many types of crowns. The most common are what are called “porcelain to metal” where there is porcelain on top and metal underneath. The newer crowns will be all ceramic. A lot of them will be purely ceramic or they will have porcelain on top of the ceramics. These crowns can be modified to look as beautiful as veneers and look very, very natural.
